Key Responsibilities
- Credit Risk Assessment: Review and analyze credit applications, credit bureau information, collateral valuation, tax returns, financial statements, and other supporting documentation to recommend or approve lending requests within delegated authority levels, utilizing automated scoring systems or traditional underwriting methods.
- Underwriting and Approval: Be responsible for underwriting routine individual consumer requests and products with few deviations, ensuring compliance with company and industry guidelines, and presenting recommendations for resolving complex situations.
- Collaboration and Mentoring: Collaborate with individuals and managers to handle inquiries, achieve objectives, and mentor peers and less experienced staff to enhance their underwriting skills and knowledge.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements, including the S.A.F.E. Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry regulations and standards.
- Reporting and Administration: Assist with calculations and preparation of reports for review, ensuring credit files are current, complete, and compliant with company standards.
Essential Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- At least 4 years of experience in mortgage or commercial credit underwriting.
- 24 months of documented experience in jumbo lending and/or portfolio or Home Equity lending, or more than 1 year of experience at Non-Agency MCD3.
- Active equivalent authority level in a different origination system, with a strong understanding of lending authority and regulatory compliance.
- Eligible employees with active lending authority must be in good quality standing, with no outlier status, actionable outlier occurrences in the last 6 months, and not currently on a quality action plan.
Preferred Qualifications
While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable:
- Basic Microsoft Office skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Strong analytical skills: Ability to analyze complex data, identify trends, and make informed decisions.
- Excellent communication skills: Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
- Previous knowledge and experience: Experience with Non-Agency Loans/Underwriting, lending authority, and portfolio underwriting, as well as exposure to Wells Fargo's CORE origination system.
- Complex income review: Experience analyzing complex income reviews and financial statements.
